Cinnamon chip scones

Ok I'm really excited for spring to finally come! It has finally started to warm up here in central NY. You know, its nice to be able to walk down the street without freezing your hands off : ) So being in a great spring mood, I decided to make scones. I love scones. They are perfect almost anytime of the day. Once you make homemade scones, the pre-packaged stuff will taste like lumps of rock. Generally, I'm not one for cinnamon, but my mom loves cinnamon, so the scones were created originally for my her. I couldn't find a recipe online, so I ended up making these without a recipe to follow. I wrote down the proportions, and have made them ever since. What makes these scones extra yummy is the cinnamon chips.I find that the best cinnamon chips are made by Hershey's. So, you know the drill. You cut the butter into the flour mixture and then add the stuff.Mmm cinnamon chips. Then add the cinnamon mountain! Then you add the wet ingredients, and shape.I know what you thinking! Omg look at all the scones! How many can somebody eat? Yeah, I had to make a double batch, but not for me, for my family's insatiable thirst for scone goodness.Cinnamon Chip Scones

  • 1 cup cinnamon chips
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup 1/2 and 1/2
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
Cut the butter into the mixture of flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. Add chips and toss.

In a separate bowl, beat cream, egg, and vanilla. Mix in dry ingredients. Try not to handle the dough to much.

Shape into 8 lumps. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and bake at 375 degrees for about 20 min.

Those scones look absolutely delicious! I love anything with cinnamon in it and those look like they would be great with a nice cup of tea.

And thank you for visiting my blog. :o)

I have looked for cinnamon chips for so long and can't seem to find them. I have several recipes that call for them. I guess I'll keep looking and I bet these are great inscones.

Yum. I always have a hell of a time finding cinnamon chips, though. Also, you just shaped these by hand?

It keeps raining here in Singapore, and I'm craving for some warm fresh-from-the-oven scones. Yours look simply delightful, and I must say that cinnamon chips sound really good! I've never heard of them here!

These look delicious Jessy! I love a cinnamon crumb-type topping on anything! I've never heard of cinnamon chips though.

I'm going home to NY for a week or so and am really excited not to be freezing!!

Cinnamon chocolate chips - hmmm...don't think I've ever seen them. I thought I found heaven when I found raspberry chocolate chips. These look like a great accompanyment for tea.

Cinnamon chocolate chips are probably one of those things you can find in the States, but not here...at least not yet. These would be equally as delicious with plain ones...I hope:D

Cinnamon chips! How inspiring! I know scones don't really have a season, but they seem particularly spring-y to me for some reason.

You've put the crave in me...

My grocery store isn't super well-stocked, so no cinnamon chips there. I might have to give this a try with some modifications...something tells me that blueberry-butterscotch scones wouldn't be terrible?

I love those cinnamon chips! They look like they're great in scones. I made them in biscotti not too long ago.

Hi! I know its kind of wierd to leave a comment on such an old post, but I've been searching for a recipie to this effect since I had my first cinnamon chip scone a couple days ago. how do the cinamon chips cook out? do they end up like crunchy bits of cinnamon sugar or do they stay kind of creamy like chocolate? I'm trying to figure out how my school does it. Keep baking! You have no idea how much power it will give you over your college friends! :D

I've been searching for a recipe for these since I had my first one at Panera and fell in love. But this recipe wasn't like their so I'll be searching for another one. Followed this recipe to a T. This recipe yielded an extremely wet dough. 3/4 C half & half I think is too much. The dough was a mess there was no handling it too much. They couldn't be shaped into anything other than a blob. They baked flat and turned out very rubbery. The flavor wasn't even good. I was very disappointed.

Lissa, I agree. I am in Australia and fortunately I have a USA Foods shop close by which sells Hershey's CInnamon Chips for $7 a bag (very expensive!). That bad and all my other ingredients have gone to waste on this recipe. I also followed the recipe exactly and got a very wet, sticky dough which I couldn't shape and knew something was wrong. Baked them anyway and they turned into a flat mess in the oven. Waste of good cinnamon chips! Not impressed at all.

This was one of the first recipes that I had baked today, as i haven't baked in a while I wasn't sure how it would turn out.But after reading some of the other comments and taking there advice I ended up using 1/2 of the 1/2 and 1/2.. if that makes any scene haha ;) but it worked wonders. and I also used butterscotch instead.Anyway i was able to make around ten with a additional big heart, ill post pictures soon. Thanks for posting <3
P.S i made tye dye cupcakes to.
P.S.S.I made a account just so i could tell you ;) [and upload/ share stuff]

I love cinnamon chips! I just made some cinnamon chip scones myself! I’m so used to rock-hard chewy, tough, dry, BLAND scones, but finally, these changed my life!! Finally, a scone that’s buttery, tender, soft, and delicate. Mmm. Literally the best thing that I’ve made.

I used a slightly different recipe than yours with no eggs - so mine are more like a traditional scone - so soft, tender, buttery, and flaky! Almost biscuit-like! But in a totally awesome, unique, and SWEET way!
